The ultimate Vedic homage to Lord Shiva for removal of sins and fulfillment of desires.
Rudra Ekadashini is a grand and extremely auspicious Vedic ritual dedicated to Lord Shiva. It involves the chanting of the Sri Rudram (Namakam and Chamakam) from the Yajur Veda. In this ceremony, the Sri Rudram is chanted 11 times by 11 learned Vedic scholars (Ritwiks) in a specific rhythmic cycle.
Following the recitation, a Maha Rudrabhishekam is performed on the Shiva Lingam using 11 sacred Dravyas (substances) like milk, curd, honey, and ghee. This is followed by the Rudra Homam, where the energy generated from the chants is invoked into the sacred fire.
"Rudra" means the one who removes sorrow. The Sri Rudram is considered the heart of the Vedas. Chanting it once is powerful, but chanting it 11 times (Ekadashini) amplifies the energy manifold.
It is said in the scriptures that listening to or performing Rudra Ekadashini absolves one of the greatest sins (Papas) accumulated over many lifetimes. It is a supreme remedy for those suffering from the malefic effects of planetary positions, especially Shani Dosha or Rahu-Ketu afflictions.
