Shodasa Samskara (For Iyer ( Brahmin ) Community )

Vedam says, “Agni” or fire  is born , with “malinyam”or dirt  . We can see the carbon when there is fire and it is the “malinyam” or dirt generated by agni or fire . Devathas/Gods  worried because they get their food through “agni” or fire and “agni” or fire itself is not pure , how will they get pure food ? . So the solution is to take the dirt from “agni”  so when “Ahuthi” (pouring of Ghee in Fire) is done with “Ajyam” or Ghee, the dirt went into “Ajyam” and from Ghee it went into  “Yagam”(Fire Ritual) and now the question become how to remove dirt from “yagam” . So from “Yagam” it  moved into “Dhakshinai” when “Dakshinai” is given to those Brahmins who Chanted Vedas   the dirt went to Brahmins but as the Brahmin Chanted the Vedas , the Dirt or Malinyam  disappeared due to the power of Veda Manthras.

Vedam itself says  that only the Veda manthra can remove the unseen papam or dirt or sin which is accumulated in mind which made the mind impure and polluted .When Veadas are chanted , all negatives,sins and dirt will be removed.  Now a days many believes that these things are not required and only Bhakthi is enough to purify mind .But when Bhajan or Nama Japam is done with a polluted mind , it will not give results . In Geetha , Bhagavan is asking  for complete surrender with bhakthi which  is also not practically possible . The real bhakthi is in a very very high level of spiritual growth and it  is impossible to attain that without  the basic purification and removal of dirt and negatives from mind  which is possible only through Veda manthras by doing Samskara  . As said above how the  Agni is  totally purified , Shodasha Samaskaram is for our purification which will be done with Veda manthras along with Homam sometimes .

Samskaram is associated with every process and everything is this world. Samskaram is the removal of negatives or dirt  and addition of positives . Every living and nonliving things in this world has negatives or some kind of dirt associated with it and when it is removed only the positive aspects will shine and will be useful.

There is samskaram or purification process for many items even for the food products in the world . The rice we get is after doing so many samskaras . When the cooking is done ,. Many samskarams are done before getting the final recipe . So  for everything samskaram is required to remove the negative and make it pure and usable. We all know this  very well and we do that properly .

Shodasha samskaram is required for each and every step  from Birth to death for purification to make us  eligible for Veda Adyayanam  and Upasanai  . Purification and cleanliness are even not equal to the term “Sudham”. When water is poured, normal cleanliness will come but when done with Veda Manthra only “Sudham” will come . All initial Manthras in sandhyavandanam is done for making us Sudham by removing the papam done mentally and physically .With a pure mind  only we can do Anushtanams so that it will give results .

Since we have to study and apply  Vedas  and have to live for the goodness of the all living beings  of this  world , we  are supposed to be much more purer and divine than others .  The life ,Dharma sasthram recommend is giving preference to Nithyanushtanam and fulfilling desires and achieving those material benefits which will not be an obstruction for Nithyanushtanam and against Dharma sasthram. Those who  move away from Dharma sasthra principles will finally end in  sorrow or Dhukkam even if they achieve  happiness which will stay only for a short period  and will not be permanent
