All sufferings are because of sins or papa we do in the past birth and present birth says sasthra. Veda manthra only has got the power to remove the papa which veda itself is saying . Hence we do veda parihara to destroy the papa by which we can get relived from sufferings . Even many diseases which are not completely curable with modern medicine ( Eg;Diabatiese , BP) are actually due to poorva janma papa only, says sasthra .”Poorva janma kritham papam vyadiroopena bhadhadhey” . To fulfill our wishes and remove the obstacles in our daily life and profession , we can do different poojas , homams, parayanams which will definitely help us to attain our goals by removing the negatives in us , making us more energetic and focused and also will get Devatha anugraham which is required to attain the success in all endeavors .
Rishees through their brain power attained through thapas , have realised the vedas present as Sabda Rasees ( Sound Group) in the atmosphere, they have realised it and transferred it into their minds , chanted it and also taught to next generations . We call them Manthra Drushta or who has realised the manthras
Devatha is actually the Manthra swaroopa. The letters represents the physical bodily structure of Devatha and we can bring the Devatha presence in water , fire and in Brahmin , says sasthra.. Hence in all Vaideeka Karmas the combination of Water, Fire and Feeding of Brahmins -that is Kumbha Sthapana , Agin that is Homam and Brahmana Poojanam/Bhojana will be their .
Veda says
“Agni Sarva devathaha” – All devathas are their in Agni or fire
“Apo vai Sarva Devathaha” – All Devathas are their in water
“Brahmano vai Sarva Devathaha”
is the pramanam or proof for above .
All Vedic Homama and poojas will be the combination of Kumbha Sthapana and Homam.
Kumbha Prathishtapanam
There is no roopam or shape for Vedoktha Devathas. Only chaithanyam is their which means we can says they are in the energy form . To bring the presence of Chaithanyam, Kumbha Sthapanam will be done for all Major Vaideeka Karmas. The Kumbha along with the water in Kumbha will represent the Devatha physically . Unlike us , as the Devathas dont have the panchabhootha combination , by doing the Kumabha Sthapana we bring panchabhooda combination for Devathai presence for us to worship them in our mental state.

When Devatha sannidhyam or presence comes in water and fire and even after kartha(for whom the kaama is done) has done the devatha aradhanai still there is no direct proof that Devatha has given Anughram or blessings to Kartha but when the Brahmana says ‘Prathivachanam’ like “sumuhoorthosthue”, then it will be direct proof . Since the entire vedas are residing in the Brain of Brahmin (who did the vedadyanam) , all Devatha sannidhyam is there in Brahmin and when he chants the veda manthra and says Prathivachanam, it is as equivalent as devatha is giving anughram through Prathivachanam .
Deavatha avahanam will be done in Kumbham to make the sannidhyam or presence much stronger .Shodoshopachara pooja is done as now the Devatha has attained physical form in Kumbha .
Devatha presence will be there in veda manthra and when brahmana chants the manthra , devatha sannidhyam will come directly
Devathas gets their food directly through Agni and hence when Homam is done , Devatha will get complete satisfactions and will give anugraha to Kartha.As explained earlier Veda manthra have only got the power to remove the sins and when Brahmna chants veda manthra and the kartha gives Dakshina to Bramana , sins will pass through dakshina to Brahmana and will get disappear through the power of manthra they have chanted .
Thus by doing any Vaideeka paroyoga combined with Kumabha Sthapanam , Homam and Brahman aradhanam , Devatha anugraha will come to Yajamana. All his papams will be removed and all wishes will be satisfied.
Importance of Agni Upasana and Homams
Bharatham means “Agni”. The name itself came because all people lived here were Agni Upasakas. We all have to do agni upasana from Birth to death says veda . When a child is born , Jathakarma starts with Agni Manthras to purify the child . There is Bhalekarana Homam in jathakarma . Rig veda starts with “Agni meeley purohitham”. In Andheysthi also body is given to agni as its material for the homam. As per upakrama , upasamhara nyaya of meemamsa , Agni aradhana is there from birth to death .
Homam means putting the “Havis” or Rice in agni . We can give the food to devathas through Agni only which is must to get the results of all vaideeka Karma- says sasthras . That is why we give havir bhagam ( Rice) to devathas through Agni . “Agni Mugho Vai devaha” means All devathas gets their food through Agni or fire says vedas.
Let us understand in details the connection between us , Devathas and homam we do .
Our body is functioning because of its connection with jeevathma . Athma is chaithanya and through its connection the body is working though athma doesnt have any intention to make the body function . But for the body to function , it needs energy which is absorbed from the food we take in . If the body does not have the capacity to function , the jeevathma will go out of body .Hence the both are interdependent in one sense . When we eat the food , jadaragni in the stomach will digest everything and absorb the juice portion of it , convert it into energy required for each orgnas and transfers it to them . Jadaragni is nothing but the form of chaithana or Athman . Bhagavan says in Geetha “Aham Vaiswanarobhoothwa Praninam Dehamasrayaha” means I am sitting the stomach all living beings as vaiswanaragni ( The fire that is resent in stomach which does the digestion).Till the time jeevathma is present , Jadaragni (fire in the stomach) will function for the absorption of energy from food . Each of our organs has got connections with each of the panchabhoothas .
If we look at the Laghu Nyasa it says
- May Agni (Fire) nourish [my] speech
- väg hrudadaye
- [May] my [nourished] speech [link] to the heart
- Hrudayam mayi
- [May] heart [link] to the me
- aham amrathey
- [May] I [link] to the eternal [self]
- amrutham Brahmani
- [May] the eternal [self] [link] to the expanding consciousness
- aboddha .
For each organs to work properly after getting the energy is through the Devatha anugraham or devatha sannidhyam as the devatha chaithanyam is making the absorbed energy work properly and also the devathas are nothing but the chaithanya of paramathma only .
Now coming to homam, when the annam (Rice)or ajyam(ghee) ahuthi (puuting it in fire) is done in Homam , agni (fire) will absorb the energy and transfer it to Devathas for whom the ahuthi is done like how it transfers it to organs in our body , The same devatha chaithanyam which is present in the Brahmandom or universe is present inPindadam or in our body . Hence ultimately the Homam will make the Devatha Sannidhyam (presence) much stronger in our body which makes our organs functions properly and also Devatha Sannidhyam will make our wishes fulfill easily through Devatha anugraham and sannidhyam .
When homam is done for a particular objective , the power of veda manthra will destroy the papa and hence the disease will be cured , devatha sannidhyam will be more strong , which all together or will help to make one fulfill their wishes if the obstruction is due to poorva janma papa or due to lack of Devatha anugraham or sannidhyam
Homas cane be classified as 3 main categopry
- Samaskara Homas – To be done in Shodasha Samskaras ( Upanayanam , Vivaham etc )
- Paraychitha Homam – Pariharam for poorva janma and Iha Janma papas
- Kamya Homam- – For fulfilling our wishes
In all Prayachitha and Kamya Homas , there is Poorvanga , Utharanga and Acharya Varanam
Poorvangam
Kruchracharanam– Self purification process to get the eligibility for doing the karma
Pooravanga Godanam – There is Godanam precsribed for Praschitha kamya karmas. As per sathathara Maharishi , atleast one fourth amount of the money equivalent to the cost of cow should be given to Brahmin . Even if it is not possible , whatever possible should be given and later when one has the capacity , have to fulfill the Godanam .
Pooravanga Nandi Sradham . Nandi is the Sradham for Pithru devathas . Will be done as Hiranya Sradha
Punayahavachanam– There is Punyahavachana for the purification of all materials and also sasthras presecibes Punyama as the Anga of nandi .
Pooravanga Vaishnava Sradham – This for The Lord Vishnue .
Pooravanga Dasadnam – Detailed Dasa danam will be done in Utharangam . Here Dakshinai will be given for the Godana Prathinidhi or representative
Acharya Varanam – As all Prayaschitha Karma as done through acharya only , Formally handing over the Karma to achrya has to be done
Rithwik Varanam – Requesting the Rithwiks to be become the part of Karma which Acharya is doing
